Essential oils are the vital essence
of aromatic plants and are found in herbs, flowers, fruits, sap,
seeds, and skin of a plant, as well as in the bark, leaves, roots,
resins or wood of certain trees. Essential oils contain the therapeutic
properties of the plant in concentrated form. The use of essential
oils can help improve our sense of well-being and physical health.
The history of Essential Oils goes back more than 6,000 years, when
ancient civilizations used them as part of their daily lives. The
Romans used essential oils for the sensory pleasures it gave them
and Hippocrates, the Greek physician who is considered the Father
of Medicine, stressed the importance of a daily bath and a massage
with essential oils as the basis for personal health and well-being.
Pure essential oils are a precious commodity obtained through highly
labour-intensive processes. It takes over 225 pounds of rose petals
to produce only 4 teaspoons of oil! It is for this reason that rarer
or more laborious essential oils can command a high price.

Aromatherapy
Essential oils have an immediate impact on our sense of
smell through a process called olfaction. This is because the olfactory
nerve passes directly from our nose to the limbic system –
the emotional centre of the brain. This affects our breathing, blood
circulation, memory, and endocrine glands. The fragrances from essential
oils have unique properties that stimulate these systems in different
ways. Aromatherapists often combine different scents to obtain or
promote certain results.
Today, the word "aromatherapy" is frequently misused
to describe artificially scented products, but true aromatherapy
only refers to pure botanical essential oils. Unlike the overpowering
scent of synthetic fragrances used in most aromatherapy candles
on the market, Timothy Han candles contain pure essential oils only.
Timothy Han's soy candles are recognized by their unobtrusive, natural
and delicate scent that lingers long after you have extinguished
your candle.
